Organizing Family Pictures Creatively
Saturday, February 4th, 2012The majority of families have hundreds of photos stored in drawers, bins, and albums, and you may not be any different. You may even have a plan or a few good ideas on how you would like to get these photos organized one day. However, it is easy to procrastinate getting going on this job, especially since in most cases it requires a fair amount of time and work. If getting your family photos organized is something on your “to do” list, here are some tips you may use to help get the task done right.
Plan for Protecting Your Pictures
Keeping your photos and protecting them from possible damage ought to be the first order of business. Sometimes your pictures could get damaged even if they are kept in albums. For instance, many older style “magnetic” picture albums can cause photos to stick, resulting in damage over time. Your photos could also get damaged if they are being kept in albums that are not specifically acid-free. Photos that are merely stored in bins could become bent, ripped or damaged in some way. Even though you might not worry too much if the photos are simply prints of digital files you have carefully stored, damage can be a catastrophic problem for vintage photos. In some instances, you may not even have the negatives for a few of your photos. You are at risk of losing those pictures forever if they are harmed beyond repair. Before this happens, you should make plans for safe photograph storage. There are numerous great ways to keep your pictures safe and sound, including scrapbook albums, containers made expecially for storing photos, and bins that are specifically made out of acid-free materials. Naturally, you might also wish to display a few of your favorite pictures, even if you want to keep the originals stored with the rest of your archived pictures. You’ll even be able to exhibit those vintage photographs in simple leather picture frames if you simply take the time to copy them and make copies. In some instances, you will even be able to improve upon the original print by using a graphics program to repair visible tears, stains and wrinkles.
Developing the Ideal Picture Album
Although there probably really isn’t any such thing as the “perfect picture album,” there are album designs that can be the best thing for a specific need you’ve got in mind. For example, you might wish to sort your pictures by date, subject matter or another personal preference. You should simply choose whatever works the best for you. If your photos are currently shoved into boxes that don’t have any semblance of order, it might take a bit of time and effort to get them all sorted out. You should be able to get this job finished rather quickly if you simply dedicate a whole table and a weekend of your time to doing the task. When they’re all organized you might count them and figure exactly how many albums or perhaps scrapbooks you will need to have in order to find a place for them all. You might not be able to purchase all of these books at one time, and if you can’t you may choose to only buy one once every month, or however frequently you will be able to with the time and money you’ve got on hand. You’re likely to find pictures that you really like but haven’t seen in quite a while, as you are going through your pictures. Displaying these favorites in double picture frames can be a great way to enjoy them all over again.
So begin organizing your pictures today and have a good time with it!
